Good to see that it is now out in the public arena. This will be a great way for Cliff’s life to be remembered and I think John Jarrett is a good choice for the role.

John Jarratt, Quentin Tarantino’s favourite Australian actor, is preparing for a film role that could hardly be more different from terrorising travellers in Wolf Creek. He will play Cliff Young in Middle of Nowhere, a comic drama about the gumboot-wearing potato farmer shuffling to victory in the 1983 Sydney-to-Melbourne ultra-marathon.
‘‘It’s a bit of a shock when you realise you’re getting up there,’’ said Jarratt, 57, about playing the then 61-year-old. ‘‘I’ve worked on the voice but I need them to tell me exactly when the starting date is before I start going beserk with the losing weight routine.’’
Jarratt was in the audience for the premiere of Tarantino’s war thriller Inglourious Basterds at the State Theatre last night. The duo are getting together at the Cremorne Orpheum tonight for a screening of one of Jarratt’s films, the little-seen 1980s croc attack pic Dark Age. Tarantino is providing the print from his own collection of mostly obscure Australian films.
